Continue studying after graduation
By activating your continued right to study, you may continue studying for more than two years after your graduation from the University of Eastern Finland. You may study at the university in accordance with a right to pursue minor subject studies, or complete minor subject studies for which you have received the right to study during your degree studies. All the minor subjects offered at the university are compiled on the university’s Kamu webpages for students. The University of Eastern Finland offers a wide range of opportunities for competence development.
A continued right to study may be granted to a person who has completed a lower (Bachelor’s) or higher (Master’s) university degree on or after 1 August 2019, or a person who has completed a postgraduate degree on or after 1 January 2020. The criteria are described in more detail in the Study Regulations.
You may activate your continued right to study at any time after completing your degree. However, the right to study always terminates after the academic year in which the degree was completed and the following two academic years are over. To continue studying after you have graduated, you will need a continued right to study, which will be activated by the Student and Learning Services’ customer service point upon your request at any time after you have completed your degree.
A person who has been granted a continued right to study may join the Student Union. The continued right to study does not, however, entitle a person to use the student health care services provided by the Finnish Student Health Services (YTHS), so the fee for YTHS services is deducted from the Student Union membership fee payable by persons with a continued right to study. A person with a continued right to study is also not entitled to the student discounts granted by Finland’s government-owned railway company VR or the bus station and freight services operator Matkahuolto.
