Karelia Symposium.

Karelia Symposium focuses on wood construction and use of wood

Focusing on wood construction and the use of wood, this year’s Karelia Symposium, under the theme ‘Wood on my Mind’, will be held on the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland on 9 April 2024 from 9 am to 5 pm.

The programme features highly prominent speakers, including Sandra Lupien, the Director of the MassTimber@MSU programme at Michigan State University, as well as speakers representing Finnish industry, the European Forest Institute, research and education. A video address by Minister for Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah will also be heard in symposium. In addition, the programme includes a panel discussion with experts delving into the symposium theme and reflecting on the current state and development of wood use. The programme is in English.

Free bus transportation requiring advance registration is available from the Joensuu Campus to the Kuopio Campus. The bus will depart from the Borealis building at 7 am, returning to Joensuu in the evening. The programme is free of charge, with coffee offered by the organisers. Only lunch is at participants’ own expense.
