Yes, it is possible. However, we reserve the right to decline requests if they are too demanding or time-consuming for the Help Desk. You can send your text for evaluation via email to yufe-helpdesk@uef.fi and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, there are not short cuts in translation or interpreting - hiring professionals is always the best way to go. However, there are various translation apps that might be helpful, and these include:
- SayHi
- Text Grabber
- Microsoft Translator
- iTranslate Voice 3
- Speak and translate
- Google Translate (Please mind that its usefulness is language-dependent, and its algorithms work best with these languages that they get most input from, so translations from and/or into rarer languages might not be as successful as in the case of these languages which are widely used on the web in many various contexts)
It is also important to remember that any computer-assisted language tool works best with non-metaphorical language, and that it is also wise to use such tools for rather general reference. Before publishing anything, translation quality should be verified.
It is a good idea to agree with colleagues in different countries on a uniform way of announcing meeting times. There are many different ways to do this. For example, meeting times can be expressed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Finland belongs to the UTC+2 time zone. If a meeting starts in Finland at 1:30 PM (13:30), colleagues from other countries will be notified of the meeting time according to the Coordinated Universal Time as 11:30 UTC. In Finnish you should use a dot (.) in time markings and in English you should use a colon (:).
