Sisältö
The course provides an introduction to the essence of environmental law: its special characteristics (including challenges of legal regulation of the environment and its use), key concepts, different regulatory approaches and instruments used in environmental law and the relevant actors. The course also introduces students to the different interconnected levels of environmental law: national, European and inter – and transnational legal systems.

The student will
- have a good understanding of key aspects of law and legal thinking, with an emphasis on environmental law
- know how environmental problems can be addressed through legal means and recognize the key challenges therein
- have a basic understanding of the legal systems of European and international environmental law
Suoritustapa
The course contains four interactive lectures, 8 hrs of contact teaching in total. The course can be completed by writing a learning diary (ca. 2700 words) and passing an exam. The amount work: lectures 8 hrs, writing a learning diary 20 hrs and independent work by student 102 hrs.
Attending contact teaching is compulsory for students in the MDP on Environmental Policy and Law. For other students, remote participation is possible, although not recommended due to the interactive nature of the course.
The course has a Moodle platform. The link and enrolment key will be sent by email to the registered students ca. two weeks prior the start of the course. The course will be held at the start of the autumn semester, in September.
