Sisältö
The course covers issues related to cross-border commercial law. It discusses the nature of the transnational commercial contracts and different sources of law applicable to transnational commercial transactions. The course deals with the choice of law and jurisdiction issues in commercial contracts as well as dispute resolution mechanisms for transnational commercial disputes.

The student will
- Become familiar with basic and advanced principles of criminal law and international law.
- Identify the field of Transnational Criminal Law as a complex legal system.
- Recognize what are transnational crimes and international crimes, their differences, and the challenges they pose.
- Learn to approach complex transnational legal cases identifying common issues of concurring jurisdictions.
- Identify the appropriate tools provided by international police and judicial cooperation entities to approach cases involving transnational crime.
- Recognize the legal issues and limitations afflicting international police and judicial cooperation entities.
Study methods: The course has two alternative modes of study.
Mode of Study 1: The course is organized as seminar, (Spring semester) consisting of 4 hours of mandatory introductory lecture and 8 hours of mandatory final seminar. During the seminar, students will write a seminar paper in pairs or in small groups on a topic given by the lecturer. Moreover, students will give a presentation on their seminar paper and examine other students’ papers during the seminar.
Mode of Study 2: Students take the written exam, which is based on independent study. The written examination can be taken in Finnish or in English through the e-platform. The exam may be taken four times during the academic year (twice in the Autumn semester and twice in the Spring semester).
