We are delighted to invite you to FinnGen Day organized by the Bioinformatics Center at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF).

Event overview
FinnGen Day is designed to introduce the research communities at UEF and Kuopio University Hospital to the FinnGen research project. The day will feature a series of expert talks, starting with an overview of the FinnGen research project and guidance on how to get involved.

The program will address foundational aspects of the FinnGen project, offer practical participation tips, and illustrate how FinnGen data has been successfully applied in various research contexts. We will delve into case studies demonstrating the innovative use of FinnGen data in cutting-edge research worldwide.

Target audience
This event is open to anyone interested in exploring how FinnGen genomic, lab measurement and health record data can enhance their research.

Keynote speaker
We are honored to have Professor Johannes Kettunen from the University of Oulu as our keynote speaker. Professor Kettunen is an internationally renowned researcher with a significant role in various discoveries, Finnish genetics and genetic epidemiology. Professor Kettunen has also played a major role in establishing the analysis network within the FinnGen community.

Social gathering
To conclude the day, we invite you to join us for a self-paid dinner or pub gathering in the Kuopio city center. This informal setting will provide an excellent opportunity to network with fellow researchers and discuss ideas from the day’s presentations. If you are participating, please remember to register.

Please register for the event by 10.10. A link to participation via Teams will be sent by email before the seminar.

What is FinnGen?

FinnGen is a collaborative research project, whose goal is to improve our understanding of disease predisposition, mechanisms, and progression by analyzing genetic and health data using advanced approaches in statistical genetics. The collaboration involves Finnish universities, hospitals, well-being service counties, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), biobanks, and thirteen international pharmaceutical companies.  FinnGen has collected and analyzed genome and health data from 520,000 Finnish biobank donors to investigate the genetic basis of disease and promote the development of precision medicine. The FinnGen data is available for all the research partners of FinnGen and offers a unique opportunity to incorporate vast genomic information to your research.
