The global coronavirus pandemic and climate change not only exposed but also worsened the inherent uncertainty characteristic of our social, environmental and economic systems.
Together with its international partners, the Responsive Natural Resources Governance Research Group at the University of Eastern Finland has published a new Policy Brief on the subject. The authors of the Policy Brief include researchers from the University of Eastern Finland and Jyväskylä, as well as researchers from Mozambique, Tanzania, Mexico and Indonesia.
The Policy Brief calls for improved collaboration in natural resource governance and the development of policies and platforms that foster inclusion and trust.
Collaborative processes support cooperation between different actors, such as citizens, NGOs, research organisations and different sectors. Dialogue between actors should be increased for example by sharing information in public workshops, in the media, and on digital platforms.
According to the Policy Brief, strengthening the role of local citizens and communities in the dialogue will also lead to justified and sustainable decision-making.
