The University of Eastern Finland will reform its rector model by appointing a rector and two vice rectors for the term of office beginning in 2025. The current terms of office of the Rector and the Academic Rector will end on 31 December 2024.
At its meeting of 21 November 2023, the Board decided on the organisation of the rectors and the related changes to the UEF University Regulations. Starting on 1 January 2025, UEF will have one rector and two vice rectors. In accordance with the Board’s decision, UEF may also have several other vice rectors. The rector will lead the university’s operations and manage the duties assigned to the rector in the Universities Act. The vice rectors will be responsible for research and education. The rector will decide on the more detailed division of duties and substitution arrangements of the rectors in cooperation with the vice rectors.
The UEF Board heard the views of the university community during the autumn on the organisation, duties, division of duties and key themes of the upcoming term of office.
– The decision on the composition of the rector model was made based on the Board’s discussion and the feedback received from the university community. This model strengthens the management of education and research, and also enables observing the development needs that were highlighted by the university community, says Lea Ryynänen-Karjalainen, Chair of the UEF Board.
For the post of Rector, the application period will be 8–31 January 2024 and the selection will be made on 25 April 2024. For Vice Rectors, the application period will be 2–24 May 2024 and the selection will be made on 12–13 September 2024. The hearings of the university community regarding the top candidates for the post of Rector will be held on 8 April 2024 in Kuopio and on 9 April 2024 in Joensuu. The hearings regarding the top candidates for the posts of Vice Rectors will be held on 26 August 2024 in Joensuu and on 27 August 2024 in Kuopio.
