Doctoral defence of Anna Mark Kayanda, MSc, 20.12.2024: Combining extreme programming and design science research on implementation of information systems in the Tanzanian higher education context

The doctoral dissertation in the field of Computer Science will be examined at the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, online.

What is the topic of your doctoral research? Why is it important to study the topic?

Anna Mark Kayanda, MSc, investigated the suitability of the combined DSR with agile methodology to develop information systems for Tanzania’s HEI context.

What are the key findings or observations of your doctoral research?

The results revealed how the software development process combined with the research process can help to yield better software delivery for real-life problem-solving in Tanzania’s HEI context. The use of the agile process within the DSR design and development phase is confirmed to be vital in contexts with frequently changing user requirements.

How can the results of your doctoral research be utilised in practice?

A framework combining DSR and agile methods was developed to support software development processes in ICT4D projects targeting environments with frequently changing requirements.

What are the key research methods and materials used in your doctoral research?

The study involved DSR approach whereby both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used on the research process. The extreme programming (XP) was used to support the software development process.
