Doctoral Researcher Mahmoud Negm from the UEF Department of Chemistry has been chosen to showcase his research at the international summit.
Mahmoud Negm, a Doctoral Researcher from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Eastern Finland, has been selected to attend the Global Young Scientist Summit (GYSS) 2025 in Singapore. Summit will be arranged on 6–10 January with the theme Excite, Engage, Enable.
Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) aims to inspire and connect the brightest young researchers from around the world and share compelling research propositions with scientific leaders to address major global challenges. More than 340 participants from 49 countries are expected at the summit.
Negm will join young scientists and postdocs from across the globe to engage with Nobel Laureates, Fields Medalists, Turing Fellows, and esteemed researchers. He will have the opportunity to showcase his individual research, meet renowned scientists, and network with peers.
Negm’s research includes valorization of industrial waste and side streams to renewable fuels and chemicals, especially via thermochemical biorefinery techniques.
“We are especially focusing on lignin biorefinery using hydrothermal techniques. Lignin is present in many industrial side streams which are currently utilized via direct combustion to produce heat and power. We intend to increase a potential of such side streams by tailored recovery of valuable chemical substances which can then be used to substitute fossil-based raw materials in many techno-chemical applications,” Negm says.
