Nzechukwu Michael Isiozor of the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Eastern Finland has been recognised with Pantaleo Giannuzzi Award of the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. This award was presented at the 2025 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Preventive Cardiology conference in Milan.
The award is based on the research paper titled “Life’s Essential 8 and the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Death and All-Cause Mortality in Finnish Men.” The study examined the association between Life’s Essential 8 (LE8)—a set of eight key health behaviours and factors—and the risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality. The LE8 components include diet, physical activity, nicotine exposure, sleep health, body mass index (BMI), blood lipids, blood glucose, and blood pressure.
The findings demonstrated that individuals with higher LE8 scores had a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular death and all-cause mortality. The study emphasises the importance of adopting healthier lifestyle choices, such as maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, and ensuring 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Additionally, it highlights the need for maintaining a BMI below 25, managing blood pressure, and keeping blood glucose and lipid levels within recommended ranges to reduce health risks in the general population.
This award is presented in recognition of the paper’s high number of citations in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Nzechukwu Michael Isiozor and co-authors will be acknowledged during the ESC Preventive Cardiology conference in Milan, Italy on 3 April - 5 April 2025.
