We have recently experienced challenges in Joensuu Campus Library. Joensuu Campus Library uses Sound Zones, where the space is divided into three different areas based on the use of sound: Silent area, Working area and Lounge area. Despite this, we often get feedback that, especially in Silent area, the instructions are not followed, but there are discussions and talking on the phone. For this purpose, you can access a lounge area, i.e. Olola, on the 1st floor during the library’s opening hours. Loudness has caused problems also during the 24/7 self-service hours, and it has been worrying to hear that a customer pointing out the issue may have received a rude reception from their peers. The Sound Zone instructions should also be strictly followed during the 24/7 self-service hours.
There have been other issues with behaving in the library, too. Rubbish and biowaste have repeatedly been left on the library premises. This puts an unnecessary strain on the cleaning services and is highly unpleasant for all of us.
Occasionally, cases arise where people have also let others enter our 24/7 facilities with their personal access badge. We will immediately respond to such abuse by terminating the person’s 24/7 contract. We remind you that according to the library’s Terms of use, the user should behave in an orderly fashion within the library premises and refrain from disturbing other library users. The starting point should be respect for other people. The library user may be removed from the library premises for unpleasant behaviour towards other library users or the library staff. When using the library’s services, the library user must comply with the library’s terms of use and pay attention to instructions given by the library staff. Failure to comply with the library’s rules and regulations will result in a suspension for a fixed period. If there are frequent disturbances during the 24/7 self-service time, the library may even consider temporarily closing the 24/7 facilities.
