The Board of the University of Eastern Finland approved the university’s plan of operations and budget for 2025 at a meeting held on 18 December. The agreement signed between UEF and the Ministry of Education and Culture for 2025–2028 guides the university’s activities. The strategic development targets of the agreement include attractive, international research environments of a high scientific standard, developing research training and diversifying doctoral careers. Other areas of development include flexible study and career paths and training cooperation, internationalisation of education, and cooperation and partnerships that strengthen the vitality of Eastern Finland.
The annual planning is based on strategic programmes that specify the strategy and have been adopted by the UEF Board. These programmes serve as the university’s plan of operations and guide the concrete progress of the strategy and the allocation of strategic funding.
UEF’s financial situation is stable, and the revenues and expenses of the budget for 2025 are in balance. The university’s core funding will increase through performance and a higher university index. The funding is also increased by the doctoral education pilot due to the Act on the Government Funding of Research and Development Activities, in addition to which the funding granted by the EU Commission is expected to increase the level of external funding.
Rector Jukka Mönkkönen extends his thanks to the entire university community for the good work and results.
– UEF’s financial situation is strong and stable. The starting points for high-quality and impactful operations in accordance with our strategy are excellent also in 2024.
