UEF receives nearly 10 million euros in funding for Master’s level education

The Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology at the University of Eastern Finland has received nearly 10 million euros of EU funding for Master’s level education.

Running in 2025–2030, the programmes will train nearly 200 specialists. Included in their implementation are numerous international companies providing students with opportunities for internships and thesis projects.

“These highly competitive Erasmus Mundus grants were awarded to two joint Master’s degree programmes, and for the preparation of one new programme,” says Markku Hauta-Kasari, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology.

“More than 150 organisations in Europe applied for grants for joint Master’s degree programmes, and only around 30 of them were accepted. So, our faculty has every reason to be very proud of its performance,” Hauta-Kasari notes.

“These programmes also strengthen international education at our faculty, which we have a long tradition in.”

The grants cover the costs of the programmes and the scholarships available to top-performing students.

The Imaging and Light in Extended Reality programme, IMLEX, is coordinated by computer science and photonics at the University of Eastern Finland. The programme partners are KU Leuven in Belgium, Jean Monnet University in France and Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan.

The University of Eastern Finland is also a partner in the Intelligent Photonics for Security Reliability Sustainability and Safety consortium, iPSRS, which is coordinated by Jean Monnet University. Other partners include the University of University of Vilnius in Lithuania and the Université Paris-Est Créteil in France.

The Department of Technical Physics was granted preparatory funding which enables the preparation of a future Erasmus Mundus programme application.
