UEF Water, a call for a visiting professor

UEF Water – programme is requesting letters of interest for a 3–6-month research visit for senior level scientists

UEF//Water at University of Eastern Finland brings together and facilitates collaboration between researchers engaged in water research. The programme supports interdisciplinary water related research with high societal impact aiming at sustainable co-management of water resources. The water research programme has received a special endowment from Olvi Foundation, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Fund, and Saastamoinen Foundation.

A visiting professor at UEF is expected to have affiliation and to have associate or full professorship in other organization. The candidate should have a strong track record of combining research related to natural and social sciences with high societal impact.

The aim of the research conducted during the visit should:
• support and has close linkages to the missions of the water research programme
• be interdisciplinary, requiring expertise from at least two different scientific disciplines, and illustrating connections between natural and social sciences
• be innovative and scientifically high quality
• have scientific and societal impact

We encourage the candidates to contact the UEF//Water research group leaders to ensure that the interest of the visit can be implemented and integrated into the existing research scene at UEF//Water. A list of research group leaders affiliated with UEF//Water can be found here: UEF//Water research group leaders

This is a great opportunity for a senior scientist who wants to conduct interdisciplinary research at scientifically high level and create new collaborative networks among internationally recognized scientists in the fields of environmental science, biology, toxicology, material science, social sciences, business and tourism, and water law. We can cover housing, travel costs, and office space either in Kuopio or Joensuu campus. The financial support to cover the costs of the visit will be agreed on a case-by-case basis and according to the length of the visit. The compensation is not paid directly to the applicant but handled between the institutions.

The screening of letters of interest starts on 1st of November 2023, until suitable candidates are found. The preferred starting date for the visit can be negotiated. However, the visit must be completed by May 31st, 2025.

Expressions of interest can be submitted online (please include your CV, work plan and motivation letter including research interests while visiting UEF//Water) at: https://link.webropol.com/s/UEF-Water-visiting-professor-2023
