A typical epidemiological dataset and its most common variable types. Basic statistical methods used specifically for analyzing data from cross-sectional and follow-up studies. Basics of the IBM SPSS software.
Objectives
After the course, student
- is familiar with the basic statistical concepts and analysis methods,
- understands how different variable types and statistical methods are related to each other,
- can interpret the results of basic analysis methods applied in epidemiology,
- can use the IBM SPSS software for basic purposes.

Study and implementation methods
Self-learning: an educational handout and scheduled learning assignments at online Moodle learning environment. Course is open 6.9.2024 - 31.5.2025.
If you plan to take the course during a fall semester, you need to send your learning assignment answers to the course eLearn Moodle by November 30, 2024. Correspondingly, if you plan to take the course during a spring semester, you need to send your learning assignment answers to the course eLearn Moodle by April 30, 2025. Please, remember to register as a student in the course eLearn Moodle in good time, preferably by the end of September for a fall semester and by the end of February for a spring semester.
You need to have access to SPSS software to study this course. SPSS software can be downloaded onto your personal computer after registration and receiving right to study.
Study materials:
No compulsory literature. Supporting literature will be informed in eLearn Moodle.
Evaluation criteria: 0-5. Learning assignments will be graded on a scale from Fail to 5/5.

By paying the study fee, the student receives a temporary right to study that entitles them to attend a particular course.
