Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students are familiar with sociology as a discipline and as a way to see society. Via learning different sociological theories of society, they are able to understand the relevance of structural factors and cultural mechanisms that form social life and individual agencies, and thus to also reflect everyday life through sociological lenses.
Content
The course provides insight on sociology as discipline: its historical development, zeitgeist analysis, and topical fields. The course introduces basic concepts, classics, and theoretical approaches to understand social structures at different levels of social life. Sociological research that shows how “sociality” shapes social relations and individuals’ understanding on themselves and each other is also introduced.

Modes of study
The course is a self-study online course in the Moodle learning environment. Online course include lecture recordings and/or written materials. Based on the literature, various written assignments are given.

This course is suitable for international students.
The study fee for individual courses is 20 e/ECTS credit and 15 e/ECTS credit for study modules. This price holds for the academic year 2024–2025.
