Professor Kirsi Pietiläinen from the University of Helsinki, will give a talk on Obesity - appetite, genes and lifestyle.

Kirsi Pietiläinen is a Professor in Clinical Metabolism at the University of Helsinki and the Chief Physician at the digital weight management program, Healthy Weight Hub, at the Helsinki University Hospital in Finland. She holds an MD and PhD in Medicine and a Master of Science in Nutrition from the University of Helsinki.

Pietiläinen has dedicated her career to studying the metabolic effects of obesity in twin studies, and effectiveness of different weight loss methods. She has a particular interest in adipose tissue and muscle mitochondrial function, novel obesity drugs as well as the digital treatment of obesity.

She has been a principal investigator in 20 international multicentre trials on obesity and diabetes and has received several awards and grants for her research, including a Distinguished Researcher grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Pietiläinen’s research portfolio includes over 200 original articles, several reviews, and numerous book chapters.

In addition to her research, Pietiläinen wishes to make significant contributions to the development of obesity treatment. She currently chairs the working group responsible for Finnish Obesity Treatment Guidelines, and she is also the president of the Finnish Association for Obesity Doctors.
