The COST Action 'Language in the Human-Machine Era' LITHME working groups ‘Computational Linguistics’ (WG1) and ‘Language work, language professionals’ (WG7) are organising a joint workshop at the Joensuu campus. 

The keynotes, presentations and panel are open to the public: 28 August 9:00–16:30 and 29 August 9:00–14:30. The event is free of charge. Coffee will be served, lunch breaks at own cost. Welcome!

The theme of the workshop is "The roles of language technology and language professionals in the human–machine era." The two-day workshop aims to address this topic from various perspectives through invited keynote talks and thematic presentations. The keynote speakers are Professor Mark Fišel from the TartuNLP Centre and AI Research Manager Catarina Farinha from Unbabel.

As part of the workshop, the project CUDIS - Cultural Knowledge and Digital Skills in Globalising Working Life Project (ESF+) organises a panel discussion on opportunities and challenges of language technologies in multilingual workplaces in North Karelia on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, at 15:00-16:30 (Agora, AT100). The panelists are Communications and Sustainability Manager Laura Hyvärinen (Porokylä Bakery oy), Manager Timo Leinonen (Regional Council of North Karelia) and Thesis Worker in Language Technology Kata Mikó (Youpret oy).
