Studies
At the UEF Business School, we educate business experts with diverse talent and versatile career opportunities. We offer an innovative learning environment, which encourages life-long learning. Innovativeness is shown through our innovative pedagogy, such as arts-based teaching, collaborative inquiry, flipped classroom approach, and drama education. We also offer flexible learning environments and opportunities to choose between contact lessons and distance learning options. Our students can choose their minor studies freely and thereby design the structure of their studies the way they like.
Our students have an opportunity to collaborate with local and global companies during their bachelor and master’s studies. Company collaboration includes e.g. visiting lecturers, project with a company, solving a real case offered by a company, and/or research collaboration with a company when writing a thesis. Furthermore, our students are able to have work experience during their studies in a form of practical training (internship).
In addition to our programmes taught in English, we also offer a variety of degree programmes taught in Finnish.

Research
The research in UEF Business School provides solutions to current business and management challenges. We focus on collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises in Eastern Finland, nationally, and internationally. Our aim is to contribute to the development of local business life and to the wellbeing of society as a whole. Research results are also utilized in teaching.
We have eight research groups with the development, growth and internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as a common denominator. Our main goal is to produce peer-reviewed and international journal articles and book chapters. We encourage our personnel to build international networks through researcher exchange, conference participation and international research funding.

Business cooperation
Valamis is a global IT company specialized in the digitalization of learning. Founded and headquartered in Joensuu, Valamis has offices across Finland, in addition to the US, UK, Netherlands, Germany, and Russia.
The UEF Business School has been happy to cooperate with Valamis for several years already. Many trainees have had the chance to experience the exciting work environment of a fast-paced IT company, and a few alumni have also found permanent employment in the company. The roles and duties of the UEF trainees have varied from HR to sales to marketing, and the students have been eager to experience the international atmosphere as well as the unique organizational culture that has also been officially recognized as one of the best in Europe.
