The Strategic Research Council (SRC) established within the Research Council of Finland has granted a total of 27 million euros for research to be conducted under the theme ‘just green transition’. The University of Eastern Finland secured a total of 3.5 million euros of research funding for five consortia. Funding was granted to two consortia led by the University of Eastern Finland, as well as to three partner projects in other consortia.
The ten consortia or sets of projects that will receive funding focus on long-term research to find solutions to key societal challenges. Just green transition refers to comprehensive, long-term solutions to ecological sustainability crises that also strengthen the stability of society and support the participation of different groups in society.
Five consortia were granted funding under the SRC programme Energy Solutions as Part of a Just Green Transition (JUST ENERGY). Likewise, five consortia received funding under the SRC programme Societal Solutions in a Just Green Transition (JUST TRANSITION). Both programmes will run for six years, ending in 2029. The funding granted to a single consortium during the first three-year period comes to an average of 2.7 million euros.
Professor Rauno Sairinen secured 519,498 euros of funding within the Pathways out of Energy Crises to a Resilient and Just Energy System – PHOENIX / Consortium: PHOENIX consortium.
University Lecturer Sirja-Leena Penttinen secured 364,560 euros of funding within the Infrastructure/institutions match for resilient & just green electrification / Consortium: 2IMATCH consortium.
Professor Arto O. Salonen secured 1 060,235 euros of funding within the Sufficiency solutions for a resilient, green, and just Finland (SISU) / Consortium: SISU consortium.
Professor Teppo Hujala secured 455,664 euros of funding within the Forests in systemic transition – balancing efficiency with fairness and resilience / Consortium: ForTran consortium.
Professor Niko Soininen secured 1 093,058 euros of funding within the Resilience of complex legal systems in sustainability transformation / Consortium: RELIEF consortium.
