The University of Eastern Finland is looking to recruit a new Rector to lead the university’s activities for the five-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2025. The related call for applications will be published in the open positions section of the University of Eastern Finland’s website on Saturday 6 January 2024. The application period will end on 31 January 2024.
The Board of the University of Eastern Finland will appoint the Rector for the term of office that begins on 1 January 2025 and ends on 31 December 2029. The person to be appointed as the university’s Rector is required to hold a doctoral degree and have the skills and professional competencies needed in the performance of the Rector’s duties, as well as good leadership skills, which have been demonstrated in practice. The Rector will lead the university in accordance with its values and strategy, and will manage the duties assigned to the rector in the Universities Act.
The person to be appointed as the university’s Rector is expected to have, among others, extensive knowledge of the higher education sector, as well as insight and experience of university leadership and development, and of science and education policy. The call for applications emphasises diverse interaction and cooperation skills, as well as the skills to support the development of staff competence and to promote the well-being at work of the university community.
The UEF Board aims to select the interviewees on 13 February 2024. The interviews and the selection of top candidates will take place on 21 March 2024.
The public hearings of the top candidates for the university community will be organised on 8 April 2024 at 12:00–15:00 in Kuopio and on 9 April 2024 at 9:00–12:00 in Joensuu. The UEF Board aims to make a decision on the Rector on 25 April 2024.
The current terms of office of the Rector and the Academic Rector will end on 31 December 2024. The University of Eastern Finland will reform its rector model by appointing a rector and two vice rectors for the term of office beginning in 2025. The application period for the posts of vice rectors is 2–24 May 2024.
