UEF Board approved the university’s plan of operations and budget for 2024

The Board of the University of Eastern Finland approved the university’s plan of operations and budget for 2024 at a meeting held on 12 December. The university’s strategy, UEF 2030 – Seizing a Sustainable Future, is implemented through annually updated strategic programmes. These programmes serve as the university’s plan of operations and guide the concrete progress of the strategy and the allocation of strategic funding. In 2024, UEF will, among others, invest more in doctoral education and increase the number of doctoral student positions.

UEF’s financial situation is stable, and the revenues and expenses of the budget for 2024 are in balance. In 2024, the revenue will be EUR 278.7 million, of which the basic funding of the Ministry of Education and Culture is EUR 170.6 million. The basic funding of the Ministry of Education and Culture has increased by EUR 6 million from the previous year due to, e.g., the excellent performance of the university and index increases.

UEF has also applied for and received more funding from other sources, such as the Research Council of Finland, Business Finland funding, the EU Horizon 2020 programme and other international project funding sources. Other funding has increased by EUR 2.4 million as compared to the budget for 2023.

Rector Jukka Mönkkönen extends his thanks to the entire university community for the good work and results.

“UEF’s financial situation is strong and stable. We have excellent starting points for high-quality and impactful operations in accordance with our strategy also in 2024.”
