The Board of the University of Eastern Finland approved the university’s plan of operations and budget for 2024 at a meeting held on 12 December. The university’s strategy, UEF 2030 – Seizing a Sustainable Future, is implemented through annually updated strategic programmes. These programmes serve as the university’s plan of operations and guide the concrete progress of the strategy and the allocation of strategic funding. In 2024, UEF will, among others, invest more in doctoral education and increase the number of doctoral student positions.

The basic funding of the Ministry of Education and Culture has increased by EUR 6 million from the previous year due to, e.g., the excellent performance of the university and index increases.
UEF has also applied for and received more funding from other sources, such as the Research Council of Finland, Business Finland funding, the EU Horizon 2020 programme and other international project funding sources. Other funding has increased by EUR 2.4 million as compared to the budget for 2023.
