The University of Eastern Finland will organise Sustainability Days on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. The event will take place in Kuopio on 12–14 March 2024, and in Joensuu on 19–21 March 2024. Sustainability Days showcase the academic community’s expertise in sustainability issues and solutions in education and research as well as in other activities related to sustainability.
Various actions towards sustainability and responsibility have been taken at the University of Eastern Finland in recent years, and the university’s faculties conduct and offer a wide range of sustainability-themed research and education.
The event is open for all. The three-day event held on both campuses provides an opportunity to explore the university’s sustainability expertise across various disciplines, and the university’s role in sustainability. The event’s opening ceremony will take place on the Kuopio Campus on Tuesday, 12 March, at 11 am, and on the Joensuu Campus on Tuesday, 19 March, at 11 am.
Versatile and multidisciplinary programme
Various faculties, research communities, research groups and other members of the academic community are arranging programme for the event. The event programme shows that there is versatile and multidisciplinary sustainability expertise at the university, crossing the faculty boundaries.
The event includes programme about different sustainability themes, such as the use of natural resources, biodiversity and social sustainability. At the event, attendees also have an opportunity to reflect on their own everyday sustainability choices related to, for instance, clothing and textiles, food and transportation.
The event programme has interactive sections, such as workshops, as well as panels, speeches and lectures. Throughout the event, there are exhibition booths and a poster exhibition about sustainability-themed teaching and research in the Snellmania and Carelia lobby areas.
The event mainly takes place on both campuses, but it is possible to participate remotely in some sections of the programme. The event programme can be explored at https://www.uef.fi/sustainability-days.
