Contents: The course examines development issues globally, regionally and locally. Each lecture presents in more detail a current development challenge in certain places.
Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the student:
- is able to structure global and regional development issues
- is able to perceive key tensions in world politics
- is able to utilize and compare different approaches to environmental and development problems
Modes of study: Lectures (20 hours) + supplementary literature, independent writing. The lectures can be followed remotely.
Teaching methods: Classroom teaching (can be followed remotely), final writing assignment.

This course is a part of the Basic Study Module in Geography and Environmental Policy (other courses available only in Finnish). You can enroll for the studies one course at a time, or by purchasing the right to study for the whole study module for the duration of one academic year. The price of a single course is 20 € / ECTS credit and the price of the module is 15 € / ECTS credit. It is possible to enroll for the basic study module until Sep, 4th, 2024.
Study units cost 20 € / ECTS credit. This price holds for the academic year 2024-2025.
