We are actively building partnerships with companies in different areas of expertise in education and research. Our partnership model comprises jointly agreed objectives and an action plan through which collaboration is systematically taken forward under the coordination of designated contact persons. A key partnership may involve, for example, promotion of a company’s visibility and recruitment in the context of education, promotion of collaboration and projects under a specific theme of research, and collaboration related to the use of research infrastructures.
A strategic partnership between the University of Eastern Finland and a company is a long-term, goal-oriented and ambitious collaboration that is led and managed through a shared roadmap, as well as through themes of collaboration and objectives that are linked to the strategy. A strategic partnership aims at significant impact in research and education through collaboration and new openings that address current challenges faced by business and industry, and society at large. Strategic partnerships make use of the multidisciplinary expertise available in the faculties of the University of Eastern Finland in order to achieve jointly agreed objectives.

Ponsse
Strategic collaboration between the University of Eastern Finland and the forestry machine manufacturer Ponsse encompasses the fields of the sustainable forest bioeconomy, technology and business studies. Significant investments in the development of these fields have made through, for example, the launch of the Master’s degree programme in technology at the University of Eastern Finland.
Themes of collaboration in the field of the sustainable and responsible forest bioeconomy include environmental management, harvesting and logistics, carbon neutrality, the circular economy, materials, as well as sustainable business. In the field of technology, collaboration pertains to photonics applications, AI and advanced computing, imaging, software and information systems, as well as the data and platform economy. In the field of business studies, on the other hand, collaboration is linked especially to the perspectives of the circular economy, sustainable, ethical and fair business, as well as the data and platform economy.
By engaging in closer cooperation, we will gain significant benefits, as we can work more closely together in such fields as research and innovation. As a result, students can learn more about our industry during their studies, and we can maybe even attract them to stay in the region after they have graduated.

FinVector
The partnership between the University of Eastern Finland and the biotechnology company FinVector strives to expand existing collaboration from research to also include working life and educational collaboration. For students at the university, FinVector offers opportunities for, e.g., thesis projects and internships, as well as a business perspective to the development of degree-awarding and continuing education alike. Systematic collaboration promotes continuous dialogue and can thus provide opportunities for broader collaboration and new openings.
FinVector is working in a specific field of business, hence we often require niche expertise from our people. Such projects are already underway in collaboration with the university, like the ReguVa project, which develops regulatory and responsibility expertise.”

Ramboll Finland
The University of Eastern Finland and Ramboll Finland concluded a partnership agreement in 2020. Collaboration between the two encompasses multidisciplinary RDI activities, as well as the development and strengthening of educational collaboration, especially in the various fields and interfaces of education and research in environmental sciences and technology. Themes to be promoted are linked, for example, to expertise related to environmental impact management, as well as to measurement and imaging.
A strategic partnership is particularly well suited for our collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland. This allows us to leverage the extensive knowledge base of both organisations and to extensively apply the latest researched knowledge to sustainable solutions also in the world of business.
